Police Brutality

//Police Brutality//

I was reeling from all the hatred,
On different accounts,
Spewed through comments written while lying on bed,
'No negativity' was going to be my latest commitment,
I didn't know so easily it would end.
.
Nor headlines, neither print or news,
I came to know about this through a visual
On social media; and I was shocked
After knowing the truth.
.
Police brutality has never left our history,
The same baton made from the same tree
Used upon the same tier of population, mercilessly.
Even then, there was no media coverage of these activities,
Even today, it's not news/media that's displaying reality.
.
Stories come up, and go,
We all read them and rage grows,
Then again, a different mode of oppression arises,
We all leave this and proceed to scavenge from those vices.
.
Disturbed by the news from surrounding,
I looked up for the definition of police; expecting something astounding.
.
Police:
"The civil force of a state, responsible for the prevention and detection of crime and the maintenance of public order."
.
Never once I found the word 'judgement',
Neither I found 'verdict', 'conclusion' or 'detention'
Then how come they forget?
.
They were never meant for retribution,
They were meant for detection and prevention,
To catch and lock and wait for judgement,
Not to shove steel-headed batons inside people's anuses.
.
The word Public sometimes means widespread,
Maybe police have some different concept,
I'm no history lover, yet I can tell,
Police brutality has never left the list of Top 10.
.
Maybe William Golding was not God,
Maybe he presented some bewildering thoughts,
But Golding once said," the two signs of man are a capacity to kill and belief in God"
And I guess, he wasn't that incorrect.
.
My words are my weapons
Which might enrage a few more hearts,
A few more hands to raised against
These brutal and inhuman matters,
It might sound foolish to fight with words,
But don't forget, pen is mightier than sword.
